July  2012

Week One:

We arrived at Port Elgin and Wendy had a delicious meal waiting for us. She and Vic gave us the grand tour of the area, took us out on Lake Huron for a sail/race and later to the yacht clubs barbeque. We also got our first experience of geocaching. This is a kind of treasure hunt, it's also known as letter boxing......check it out on the internet! We really had a fun time seeing them again.

Next stop - Guelph. Ingrid and Gary (Stargazer) live in this lovely little town. They are within walking distance of all the amenities you could need including the local pub! We spent a lovely day walking around this University town and talking about our cruising experiences.

The following day we headed for Weekswood Farm to see Linda and Vince. We decided to take a detour and visit St. Jacobs, a town rich in Mennonite history. Again, this was a quaint little town on the river (most of the places we've been to have a river or lake nearby). The visitor centre there had an interesting exhibit on the Mennonites, worth a visit!

It's been all go since our arrival at the Weeks. Linda and Vanessa have been out visiting Linda's friends and family whilst Vince and Andrew have been pottering around the farm chopping down trees and doing man stuff.  Vince and Linda are quite a couple, not only have they built their own sailboat, but they built their gorgeous home too. Amazing! Vince took Vanessa on a treasure hunt in the corn fields to search for flint and various remnants from an old Indian camp site. They did find a few pieces of flint........that'll keep Vanessa happy for a while!

We have had "Royal" treatment whilst visiting our Canadian and New Jersey cruising buddies. A great couple of weeks!

Week Two:

Well now ....... how do we tell you all what we did? We took a week "All Inclusive" trip from Toronto to a island down in the Gulf of Mexico. It was hot and very interesting. The pictures tell all.

Week Three:

We drove home from Canada and cleaned up the house for the next set of guests. During the week we went and did some Geocaching around Damascus and got some exercise.  One of the objects took three attempts and we still can't find it. However we went back to the boat on Thursday and found a Geocache after a lot of looking. Weather has been raining and we did have a violent storm pass through Baltimore ..... but no damage to us thank goodness.

Week Four:

The weeks are passing by too quickly. We are always packing and unpacking, cleaning the boat or the house and so on and so on. We do find time to have some fun though. We went to Artscape this past weekend in Baltimore. It's an annual event that closes down several streets in one of the many eclectic districts in the city. We decided to take the local bus and light rail to get there. That was a bit of fun. The transportation in and around the city is pretty good and relatively inexpensive.  On Monday we went home for a few days and we were able to see the children and grandchildren. The girls were helping Hannah in the yard, (fun with the hose pipe)  and Mathew was tending to his veggie entries to the Frederick Fair which opens in early September. His veggie patch is outside his kitchen at work. Nice to see he's using fresh produce! We got to sample a couple of the peppers.....hot, hot, hot!

We're now back on the boat and enjoying the Olympics (and the air conditioning)!
